Responses You are required to give a minimum of two responses and follow the criteria listed below: Review how your classmates achieved each course competency and transferable skill. Identify new knowledge others gained you had not considered. Describe how this new knowledge could impact your nursing practice. Apply strategies for safe, effective multidimensional nursing practice when caring for clients with neurological disorders. Multidimensional Care, in general, is a class that prepares us to be great nurses. I found that these classes keep adding knowledge to us in every category. This course specifically teaches how to care for patients with neurological disorders. First, we must understand each neurological disorder to correctly address the patient’s treatment. Even though I had previous knowledge about Parkinson’s disease, this course helped me learn how to care for these patients and their daily struggles. Outline appropriate nursing strategies for providing care to perioperative clients. Nursing strategies for preoperative clients were another important topic we learned in this course. As a future nurse having the method to prepare patients for surgery is a plus. Most of the time, perioperative patients have anxiety or fear about the surgery. It’s our role to help them overcome these fears and even bring the surgeon to answer further questions. As nurses, we need to be ready to treat and help patients with all kinds of disorders, which will require the nursing interventions we learn in this course. An example of new knowledge I gained in this course is that discharge education is vital for these patients and their families. When these patients come to the hospital, they often leave with new treatments that the family needs to learn about. Also, we must educate the family on resources they must get help with, such as home help. Compare nursing interventions for clients with complex disorders. Multi-system organ failure was another important topic that we learned in this course, along with sepsis. The management of MODS requires a multidisciplinary approach that includes antibiotics for sepsis control and microcirculatory and respiratory support for perfusion. All these interventions need the nurse to have adequate training to guarantee the best patient outcomes. At first, I was scared because the patient was in immediate danger, and as a new nurse, I didn’t feel ready. Thanks to the latest knowledge I acquired in this class, I now understand that I can be prepared to care for these patients with the proper training and dedication. Prioritize nursing interventions for clients with medical emergencies. Prioritization is a topic that needs a lot of training and knowledge; this class allowed me to correct triage patients and assist most patients in a short time. Triage is so necessary so that we can help the most injured patient and, this way, guarantee a better outcome. An example that is hard for me is that every time I see little kids, I want to make it a priority, and now I have more strategies to assign them the correct triage. Summarize the nurse’s role and care strategies for clients during disasters. The nurse is ready to help as many patients as possible during disasters. Triage of patients is one of the primary roles of the nurse, so other providers can move faster and help patients with a better chance of survival. Nurses can also be in charge and must be ready to give reports and coordinate evacuation or transportation to nearby places. A new knowledge that I gained is that nurses need to be prepared to help in a disaster situation which means that from now on, we need to be ready everywhere we go. Describe how this new knowledge will impact your nursing practice. All this new knowledge keeps adding to make me a better nurse. Understanding neurological disorders and the proper nursing interventions for these patients make me more ready for my career as a nurse. As I described before, prioritization was not my strong suit. After taking this class and practicing, I feel confident I can correctly triage patients as a new nurse. Overall, this class has been an excellent source of information for my future as a nurse.
