They met in junior high and have been together since. They have three kids Tom, 7, Mike, 10, and Ashley, 12. Aunt Martha also lives with the family. She is not related to Bob or Jen but is a friend of Jen’s mother. Bob is 32 and has always been very good mechanically. He took shop in high school and was at the top of his class. He taught himself to weld and has been working as a welder for over 10 years. It has been suggested to Bob that he get his welding ticket so his pay will increase and so he has greater job security, but he has not had time or the money for school fees to do so. Jen is a waitress; she works part-time at a local diner. She has been working there for 8 years but has been working less for the past 3 years due to the kids’ demanding schedules. Both Jen and Bob drink alcohol socially and Bob has smoked since he was 15 despite many attempts to quit. They live in a group of townhouses set up by the city for young families. They have lived there since the units were built 10 year ago. They own their townhouse. The household income is adequate to meet their needs, however the sports fees for the two older kids are increasing and becoming a concern. Keeping the kids active has always been a priority and a source of pride for the family. Ashley and Mike are very involved in sports and Jen spends much of her time driving them to various events. Tom has been having difficulty in school, but otherwise would be described as a happy 7 year old. They have a good social network in the town houses; parents share childcare, social activities, and visit regularly at the local park. Questions for Scene 1 In this case, who is the family?
