The French Revolution is famous for the creation of pamphlets, posters, art, and other distinct forms of visual culture. our focus is on the visual culture, rather than the pamphlets (many are digitized, but not translated into English). please engage thoughtfully with the visual culture of the French Revolution. Think about the impact and meaning of these pieces- what does it mean to have Revolutionary wallpaper in your house? What are the political and social messages of the pamphlets and cartoons and other pieces being printed? What is the visual language of the Revolutionary period? Some of the resources are showing us a specific moment or moments; some of the resources are tracing trends across the entire period. You are welcome to do either, but please be aware of the chronology- writing about a source from 1790 as if it was from during the Reign of Terror will not work. Assuming that the Reign of Terror or Napoleon were always inevitable outcomes is also not a good approach to take here.
