The purpose of this assignment is to further your learning

The purpose of this assignment is to further your learning about the need, processes and challenges involved in developing quality measures. You will do this by summarizing research papers on a chronic disease, condition, or procedure of your choice. This assignment provides you with an opportunity to demonstrate your achievement of the following course learning outcomes: • Propose methods and measures to improve performance within a healthcare organization and the quality of care for patients. • Apply QI tools that are used during the implementation of an improvement project. Instructions 1. To begin, conduct a literature search on “quality indicators” for different chronic conditions, diseases or procedures, 2. choose one condition or procedure to investigate more thoroughly, 3. choose a topic that can be applied to the organization you identified in your PQI Toolbox(WHGH), 4. read the related papers and 5. summarize the findings in a report by responding to the guiding questions listed below. Guiding Questions • What is being measured and why is it being measured? • Do a set of measures already exist or are new measures being developed? • In your explanation, refer to the types of quality indicators (structure, process, outcome, composite, patient experience) and the quality domains (safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, patient-centred). • Briefly, describe the process used to choose the candidate measures. Who is involved in this process? Are patients involved? How? If not, should they be? • Conduct your own search for related measures using the AHRQ, HQO, and CIHI indicator libraries. Compare your findings to what is presented in the research papers. • As part of your organization’s QI team, write a recommendation about using this set of measures going forward.
