.these are my two articles. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28207841/. AND https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38243175/ You will be required to research and locate two journal articles which addresses TWO SEPARATE ISSUES, as identified within the provided scenario below, on the topic of falls prevention and management. You are required to submit a written report as outlined. The two ‘nursing research based’ journal articles about falls preventions and management must meet the requirements: Reliably Sourced Australian or equivalence of nursing standards Lack bias Sample size appropriate Setting comparable Related directly to topic Supplementary to your two articles you will be required to analyse and evaluate current evidence-based practice policies and guidelines that support your recommendations for changes to management of Falls and Falls Prevention. Please refer to the description in each question for the expected length of each answer, this provides a guide of the anticipated length of each answer to enable the student to provide sufficient evidence. Type of Answer Answer Guidelines Sentence 1-2 typed lines approximately 20-50 words Short Answer of Paragraph 4 typed lines of approximately 75 -100 words Long answer or 2 paragraphs 8 typed lines of approximately 150 -170 words, or 1/2 of an A4 page Brief Report or 4-5 paragraphs 1 x A4 page typed report of approximately 500 words Mid report (4-5) paragraphs per page 2 x A4 page typed report of approximately 1,000 words SCENARIO A male in his mid-sixties presented to his St Bryans Hospital emergency department (ED) with complaints of shortness of breath and chest pain. He had a history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and cardiovascular disease (CVD). The patient was admitted for exacerbation of COPD symptoms and atypical chest pain. At various times during the admission process, the patient was noted to be a ‘falls risk’ but not fully recorded or assessed using a falls risk tool. He fell twice while in the acute ward in the am shift. He was then found later in the day on the floor near his bed and was subsequently diagnosed with a fractured neck of femur. This resulted in the patient having to undergo a surgical procedure to treat the fractured neck of femur. The patient stated that he had used the call bell to request assistance getting to the bathroom but no- one responded. As a result, the patient attempted to get out of bed on his own and got caught in wires and cords that were attached to him, causing him to fall. On investigation of the incident, the team found that there were several safety issues that contributed to his fall. These included no bedside commode, no access to the bed alarm, no signage on the door or a wrist band. The number of falls on the ward has also increased over the recent months. As part of the St Bryans Hospital Best Practice committee, you are required to research the current nursing literature about nursing management and prevention of falls. You will then submit a report on your findings and make recommendations for possible ‘nursing best practice standards or quality improvement strategies’ that would reduce the risk of falls for other patients in the facility. Please use the template and headings below for the creation of this report. Dear Team Members, There has recently been some increases in falls within our hospital. All members of the Best Practice committee are required to research current ‘nursing research data’ about the management of Falls and Falls Prevention. You will submit a report on your findings and make recommendations for possible ‘nursing best practice standards or quality improvement strategies’ that would reduce the risk of falls for other patients in our hospital. There are important issues that we need to resolve regarding the increased prevalence of falls and achieve a team decision to reduce the occurrence of falls. The recommendations will be discussed by the committee, to then agree to best practice actions for implementation by the hospital. . Assessment Instrument: Questions and Observation Checklist Read the scenario on falls above and answer the following related questions. Explain the situation in this scenario and why nursing research may be required to support and improve work practices, and your own nursing practice as an employee of this simulated workplace. (4-5 typed lines approximately 200 wosrddsds) Review the different sources of information available on management of Falls and Falls Prevention. (e.g., nursing practice standards, journal publications, senior nurses or nurse specialists, falls management interest groups or working parties). Identify/Describe the current trends for management of Falls and Falls Prevention described within the different information sources, a minimum of 3 trends must be included. HINT: Describe the current changes and actions that are occurring in the industry for management of Falls and Falls Prevention as outlined in the different information sources. (3 typed lines or multiple dots points for each trend identified of approximately 50 wodrds) Evaluate each identified trend in 2a. for management of Falls and Falls Prevention in nursing practice. HINT: Evaluate the current changes and actions that are occurring in the industry for management of Falls and Falls Prevention against current practice – Policy and Procedure Falls Management Policy – RPH (3 typed lines of approximately 50 wodrds) Create aa personal research objective for locating information about preventing and managing falls. (1-2 typed lines approximately 20-50 wordsds) HINT: Utilise the SMART acronym and ensure a full objective statement is included Select and evaluate possible methods of gathering information on preventing and managing falls. You will need provide no less than three examples of methods you could potentially use (for each method provide one to two sentences 20-50 wodrds). Method of gathering information on falls prevention and management Evaluation of this method for gathering information Example: Library and library resources such as data bases. The library, librarians and the data bases that can be accessed are highly beneficial for gathering information. The information is reliable, easily accessed and any questions or queries can be asked of the experts (librarians). Use a systematic approach to complete a literature search, and access nursing clinical research articles about falls prevention and management. Make notes of how you completed this search in the table below. List your search terms, the journal databases or other sources used and keywords, including Boolean phrases/terms. You may use a variety of key terms or methods to refine your search. At least two examples are required. Credible databases or sources used in your literature search Keywords used in the literature search Example: Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health care https://www.safetyandquality.gov.au/standards/nsqhs-standards Falls, Falls prevention, Evidence Based Practice, Safety From this literature search, locate journal articles related to management of Falls and Falls Prevention which clearly address different issues in the management of falls. From these different articles, you will then need to select two journal articles to use (example: Article 1- may address the importance of compliance with completing falls risk assessment tools to reduce falls and Article 2- may address the importance of patient education in reducing falls). They must have been published within the last 10 years, nursing orientated and based on nursing research. Explain how you reviewed the different articles in your literature search, and then made your final decision about which journal articles are the most relevant to your personal research objective as written Q.3. (4-5 typed lines of approximately 50-70 wordds) Compile the information from your selected articles in the table provided below to prioritise and organise your information and support your analysis. This compiled information will then be presented to the best practice committee:- Table to review and organise article information A What are the titles of your journal articles? Provide APA reference. Please utilise library services to ensure accurate APA referencing standards; https://guides.dtwd.wa.gov.au/nmtafe-apa Article 1. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28207841/ Article 2. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38243175/ (attach a full PDF copy of your articles to your final submission) B Briefly summarise the findings in the research articles. Prioritise the important information based on your need to make recommendations about management of Falls and Falls Prevention C State the year of your research articles? Based on this year of publication, assess the currency of the information in your journal article. D Explain how the author/s, type of journal, sample size/ type, and the type of research processes used by the researchers makes your articles strong and guide your evidence-based practice decisions. Article 1. Article 2. E Explain the reliability of the information in your research article. Include in your answer information that supports the credibility. Is the data or decision supported by statistics to make their final decisions and recommendations? Is there enough information that you would be able to recreate this research? Is the sample relevant to the data? F Review the final recommended actions in your 2-journal articles, evaluate and make a judgement about the feasibility (capable or possible) for implementing these actions to the management of Falls and Falls Prevention within the workplace. Article 1. Article 2. G Review the final recommended actions in your 2-journal articles and evaluate/make a judgement about the benefits for implementing these actions to the management of Falls and Falls Prevention within the workplace. H Review the final recommended actions in your 2-journal articles and evaluate/make a judgement about any possible risks of implementing these actions to the management of Falls and Falls Prevention within the workplace. I Compare and contrast the falls management clinical practice guidelines in the Blackboard shell (Falls Management Policy RPH) to the recommended actions in your two journal articles. State what is similar in the recommended actions between Article 1 and the RPBG policy State what is different in the recommended actions between Article 1 and the RPBG policy State what is similar in the recommended actions between Article 2 and the RPBG policy State what is different in the recommended actions between Article 2 and the RPBG policy J Create a conclusion based on all the information about what you would recommend to the practice committee.
