Aim of Assessment: This assessment aims to develop your understanding of evaluating the professional conduct of a nurse/midwife in the case study provided. The case study provided is a decision statement selected from Decisions of the Professional Standards Committee from the Nursing and Midwifery Council New South Wales – The Health Care Complaints Commission (HCCC). There is a word limit of 1500 words. Use your computer to total the number of words. However, do not include the reference list at the end of your assignment in the word count. The in-text references will be included in the additional 10% word count. If the word limit is exceeded by more than 10%, the marker will stop marking at 1650 words. Details: This assessment requires you to summarise the case, and identify and critically discuss the relevant professional errors that potentially contributed to the incident from either a nursing or midwifery practice perspective. Finally, discuss how your future practice might change and develop as a result of this learning. Students are to draw on the following resources to support their answer: – National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards, – NMBA professional practice documents – NSW Health’s policy documents (where appropriate), as well as other relevant sources to develop informed responses. Students must refer to the case study located on vUWS under the Assessment zone: Assessment 2- Essay. 13 The assessment should be structured using the following guidance: Section 1: Critique and summarise the case (200 – 350 words) Section 2: Critically discuss the relevant professional errors that potentially contribute to the incident (600 – 700 words) Section 3: Evaluate how your practice may be changed and developed due to your knowledge of this incident (550 – 600 words) You should only use resources that are peer-reviewed, published, or from professionally recognised expert organisations (e.g. NMBA, Clinical Excellence Commission/NSW Health Policy). Using websites aimed at consumers will not provide you with the level of detail required for this assessment (or of a registered healthcare professional) Marking Criteria: Section 1: Summary of the case. Section 4:Language use and referencing: Sentences are well constructed, expression and meaning are clear, basic written language rules are followed.
