what would you respond to this Nursing
what would you respond to this Nursing excellence is achieved when multiple perspectives are considered for the profession to remain current matters such as practice and research. These perspectives are brought forth by different organization that play a multitude of roles in health. These organizations may focus on advocacy, political activism, regulation, or be a healthcare organization resource. This discussion board will be discussing how two of these organizations contribute to nursing excellence. The two organizations are the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) initiative and The Joint Commission. QSEN is an organization whose mission is to address the challenges in educating nurses in the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to deliver safe high-quality care (QSEN, n.d.). They do this with the creation of safety and quality competencies that nursing education programs incorporate into their curriculum. This organization has a significant impact in nursing practice because their focus lays the foundation for the profession to prioritize the delivery of safe high-quality care. The organization believes that the key to improving safety and quality of care is by shaping how nurses are educated and enter the work force. Education is at the core of QSEN’s mission. QSEN competencies are incorporated in the curriculum of baccalaureate and graduate level nursing education programs. The competencies are patient-centered care, safety, quality improvement, teamwork and collaboration, evidence-based practice, and informatics (QSEN, n.d.). They also have education tools to incorporate these competencies into professional practice. Because of their focus on safe and high-quality care delivery many research projects focus on subjects within the competency areas and their corresponding knowledge, skills, and attitudes. In my opinion, QSEN is both an advocacy group and a resource for healthcare systems and education programs. They advocate for the incorporation of these competencies in nursing education and have resources for clinical settings. As a nurse, I support this organization because it’s mission and vision have a real impact in nursing practice and attempts to have a proactive approach by tackling the challenges before individuals enter the workforce. The Joint Commission is a global organization whose mission is to improve healthcare by evaluating healthcare organizations by a set of standards that focus on safety and quality of care (The Joint Commission, n.d.). The Joint Commission has a significant impact on nursing practice within organizations that seek accreditation. The Joint Commission sets forth standards of care and safety that shape how nurses practice. These standards enhance and safeguard nursing practice or can have the opposite effect. For example, Davidson et al. (2021) discusses how a change in The Joint Commission standards regarding medication titration restricted nursing’s scope and practice. These standards are incorporated in nurses’ education because of how prevalent Joint Commission accreditation is. According to Mason et al. (2016), measuring performance is foundational to high quality care. The Joint Commission develops quality measures and sets standards of practice and operation, that must be met to receive accreditation. This gives The Joint Commission a regulatory role. The Joint Commission acts as a resource for healthcare organizations by setting standards of practice and operation. The Joint Commission standards ensure organizations, and their nursing staff, are adopting evidence-based practices that delivers safe and efficient care. As nurse, I have difficulty supporting The Joint Commission. Faith in organizations like this one is further eroded after 2020. While the Joint Commission standards help ensure safe high-quality care is delivered in accredited facilities, they neglected to address and ensure patient safety during 2020 and 2021. The facility I work for was to be surveyed for recertification in 2020, they did not come in until 2 months ago. They would not have surveyors enter the hospital for safety concerns due to Covid. It was disappointing that an organization whose primary focus is safety and quality of care failed to fulfill their mission during such dire times. In conclusion, nursing excellence is achieved when the viewpoints from different organizations are considered and incorporated to deliver safe and high-quality care. Their influence may be significant or small, expand nursing’s or role or restricting. The roles and missions of these organizations vary, but they can all have an impact on nursing practice, education, and research. References Davidson, J.
