A client I oversee has been making huge progress. I keep track of the data and make updates in my progress notes. He has an insurance authorization report due in four months. I’ve been keeping his parents informed each month of the progress and have told them we will start planning a transition to a less restrictive environment in his school, as he is no longer needing full time ABA services in clinic. Today during our parent meeting, the parents asked me if I could omit some of the data from his insurance report so he could keep getting approved for another six months of services. They are just more comfortable with him getting 1:1 services at the clinic and are nervous to send him to school. I talked with my supervisor about this, confirming that I cannot omit data and falsify the progress report. He said it would be okay to do it this one time to allow the parents some time to get more comfortable with the idea of transitioning their child back to school. My supervisor said the 1:1 services certainly wouldn’t hurt the client. I am uncomfortable with this, as he really would benefit from moving on to a less restrictive environment. What do I do?
