A community health nurse is performing a assessment on a single mother, Annie, of 4 children (ages 8, 12, 15 and 18). Annie is reporting high levels of physical and emotional stressors that are exhausting her causing inability to sleep. She reports financial stress due to not working while going through nursing school. Annie reports a history of abuse as a child and in her past relationships but reports currently being a “healthy” relationship with her fiancé. The ex husband, Ben, lives next door with his partner and is still moderately engaged in the children’s life though the older 2 children want little to do with him. The oldest child recently graduated from high school and is planning on moving out of the home for college. The maternal grandmother and step father are desirous to move in with Annie and the children once the oldest goes away to college as there will be a empty room available but don’t feel they can contribute to the financial support of the family and tend to make a great deal of drama.
