As nurses, it is important to carry

As nurses, it is important to carry a certain level of professionalism with them always. This is because someone is always looking up to them as a role model, whether that be a nursing student or one of their patients. It takes a very special, specific type of person to become a nurse and that is because they must be a caring person and often times have to put the needs of strangers before their own needs. According to Felstead (2013), the NMC “states that the public should be confident that new nurses will act with professionalism and integrity.” Sister Roach reflects this idea in the 6 C’s of Holistic Nursing, as well. Nurses must be compassionate, confident, competent and committed. In order for student nurses to be able to build these characteristics and implement them into their future careers, their mentors and preceptors need to be good examples. This means that nurses need to care for new nurses and nurses in training and lead by example by being a caring role model. An example of a nurse being a good caring role model is through being patient with new graduate nurses and taking their time to really care and teach them. This reflects the caring philosophy because it means that nurses need to be caring to all and care entirely. This means a nurse cannot just care when they feel like it, or show care to certain people. A nurse must really care deep inside in order to be successful.
