Can someone please help me with the below discussion post? How do I contribute to this discussion? Discussion Post I have practiced nursing for many years and have served in many roles. I functioned as a charge nurse and preceptors in all the units that I have worked. My leadership style according to the test is Laissez-Faire Management by exception. I believe that this is accurate, for the most part especially my last position with the air medical team minimal management is required after orientation. The team is very strong regarding skills and reliability and need minimal management as far as making sure that optimal care is provided, and that the unit is functioning at its best. As a preceptor I provide much closer supervision and love to teach. I really enjoy watching someone learn and become confident with their skills and area of work. I feel that this tends to be a transformational quality. I also believe that a leader can have a mix of styles that they use which are dependent upon the unit and staff and their unique qualities. I feel that my type of leadership style impacts my decisions in nursing care the most by making me more available to the team. Of course, this style is subject to change depending on the skill sets of the nurses on the unit. For example, say the nurses have been nurses for a long time then the team can function with little oversite. This type of leader allows the unit to perform, and the leader is available to manage the flow in and out of the unit, assist with care as needed, and be a resource to the entire team. When a unit has a good orientation and preceptorship this type of leadership is not problematic, and it allows the leader to take care of issues without delegating duties.The skills that I can continue to develop as a leader is improving conflict management skills. This is a very important skill that can be used with staff, patients, and visitors to de-escalate tense situations. Also, I need to work on recognizing and empowering individuals within the team. I if I am their preceptor, but I need to be more intentional in helping the individual nurses grow and develop personal relationships with them. All of these things will make me a better leader, but it will make the fabric of the unit much stronger.
