Can you response to this post. As healthcare providers, one of the most important things we can do is help to distribute accurate scientific information. A large part of being a nurse is also being an educator. “Dissemination strategies aim to spread knowledge and the associated evidence-based interventions on a wide scale within or across geographic locations, practice settings, or social or other networks of end-users such as patients and health care providers” (AHRQ.gov, 2019). One way for nurses to communicate information is through social media. Social media plays a large part in the lives of almost every person in the world. In the morning, when I wake up, the first thing that I do is check my phone. People have become dependent on cell phones and social media. “HCPs can use social media to potentially improve health outcomes, develop a professional network, increase personal awareness of news and discoveries, motivate patients, and provide health information to the community” (Ventola, 2014). Social media can also promote websites or organizations for healthcare providers. Social media is a casual setting, but as a provider, whoever can view your posts can see all that you post. If nurses are posting antivaccination posts or smoking and drinking, the people that follow them will also be able to see those posts. When someone visits a nurse doing it, they are like if a nurse can do it, so can I. Nurses are influencers even when they are not at work. Another problem would be not all people have access to social media. For example, people who live in more rural areas and cannot afford to have internet and cell phones will not be able to access this information. The elderly population would be another group that may be less likely to see this information because they are less likely to use social media. It would be possible to overcome this obstacle if the elderly population was introduced to social media. Another way that information is disseminated is through peer-reviewed journals. Journals are an excellent way for nurses to educate and communicate with their communities. This type of communication can be complex. Having articles and journals published can take an extended amount of time. “While informal patient education holds a valuable place in healthcare settings, it also presents issues related to quality control, assessment, and curriculum. Research shows that healthcare providers, including nurses, without addressing these issues, risk a myriad of negative outcomes affecting the patient and the organization” (Dunn & Milheim, 2017).
