Case Scenario 1 – Sally, email contact
Case Scenario 1 – Sally, email contact You are a youth worker at the local youth centre. You receive an email from a young woman, Sally. You have seen Sally at the service before with her small baby. At the time she looked thin and scared. Her baby looked well looked after and was smiling and gurgling. Sally tells you, in the email, that she has had a fight with her Mum last night and her Mum threw her out. She is 16 years old and has a 2 month old baby and needs somewhere to live. Sally tells you that she is having trouble looking after her baby and that she is not sure whether it is really hers. She also writes that she has very few supports as they have only been in the area for the last 18 months and she didn’t get to school much after she fell pregnant. Sally says that she lived at home with her Mum, stepfather, 2 brothers and has been in and out of home from the age of 13 as she doesn’t get along with her step-father. She says that he’s the reason why she and her mum argue so much. “He’s such a bastard”, she writes in capital letters. She writes that she has had little sleep since the birth of her baby, feels sad and has thoughts that she might harm her child. She also reveals that her mother has a history of depression. Identify and assess the person’s current suicide risk and level of immediacy. Justify your answer and include the assessment tool used? What would you do to increase the person’s safety? List the services and/or interventions that might be appropriate? How would you review and report on the support provided?
