Case Study 2 Louis wants pressure, the
Case Study 2 Louis wants pressure, the deeper the better. He asks Ben, his therapist, to give him as much pressure as possible. But Ben has had a long day and really doesn’t want to put in the extra effort. He tells Louis that he doesn’t think deep pressure is good for him and won’t do it. If Louis insists on deep pressure, he’s going to have to go somewhere else. Ben knows Louis can’t really go anywhere else, at least not today, because he has to work the evening shift and only has a couple of hours left before his shift begins. Questions: 1. IS it ethical to coerce a client into accepting a treatment modality that we want them to experience? 2. Would it have been acceptable for Ben to threaten to discontinue providing services to Louis if he knew Louis had enough time to find another therapist? 3. Is it ever appropriate for a therapist to threaten a client for any reason? 4. How could Ben have handled this situation ethically?
