There are at least three individual ideas/comments as to what the AHIMA Code of Ethics means to you and your career. Case Study One: You have a learner in your department who asked you how you as an HIM professional can exhibit ethical behavior. You tell the learner about the AHIMA Code of Ethics and walk through each of the standards of the code. Document how you as an HIM professional can comply with each standard. Why is a code of ethics important? What does the AHIMA Code of Ethics mean to you and your career? Case Study Two: The Director of an HIT Program has contacted several hospitals seeking directed practice sites for students. One department director who was contacted refuse to accept a student because the hospital went live with an electronic health record in the previous year and has a very tight budget that does not give any additional training time for students. The program director is still looking for a possible clinical site for the student. Is the director of the HIM Department at the hospital in violation of the Code of Ethics? Is there an ethical violation, dilemma, or concern?
