The ED doctor mentioned to Mr. Strong that his blood pressure was elevated during his ED visit, it was as high as 180/110. Mr. Strong had a normal CT scan, and lab work. He was given a 30 day prescription for Lopressor 50mg PO BID, 15 sutures and Keflex 500mg PO BID x 7 days. Mr. Strong shows up at his PCP’s office 10 days later for suture removal. He was given a prescription for Metoprolol 50mg PO Daily, and his PCP wants him to follow up in 3 months and blood work. Educate Mr. Strong on the medication he has received, blood pressure monitoring, and other important important issues regarding HTN. Mr. Strong wants to know why he needs to come back in 3 months, before the fall he hasn’t needed to see his doctor for the last 5 years, and he feels fine. What would your response be?
