Jenny has been referred to your organisation by another agency. Jenny has undergone the usual intake processes of your agency and the following information has been supplied to you.

Jenny is 2 years old. Jenny resides with her mother, Charlene Duke. Jenny has no siblings and Jenny has had no contact with her father Bobby Brown for the past year. Jenny does not attend any day programs and Jenny and Charlene have no family or significant friends within their geographical area.

It is reported that Jenny’s mother Charlene consumed excessive amounts of alcohol whilst pregnant with Jenny. It has also been raised that Charlene may suffer from post-natal depression as well as a mood disorder. Jenny presents as a very quiet toddler occasionally babbling a few sounds. Jenny has been observed during visits to sit in the corner of the living room, where she remains quietly staring for most of the visits. Jenny has been observed to stare vacantly at the wall most of the time and displays next to no, emotional responses. Jenny does not maintain eye contact when being spoken too, nor has she been observed to smile at all. 

Jenny remains still when workers approach her and shows no affect. Jenny has been observed crawling on two occasions but never walking. Workers on three occasions took a box of toys and sat them in front of Jenny and she looked at them and quickly looked away with a sad expression on her face. 

Jenny has been diagnosed with extreme iron deficiency, is underweight for her age and is frequently ill. The workers have observed Charlene to still feed Jenny as Jenny is unable to feed herself or to hold a spoon. Jenny wears nappies during the day and at night. 

At the office it was observed that when another child of similar age approached Jenny to say hello, she hit the other child in the face and then quickly crawled away, hid under a chair and stared out the window.

Workers have observed Jenny to crawl up to Charlene during visits, look at her and quickly crawl back to the corner. Charlene has not been observed to pick Jenny up and Charlene goes to the corner and feeds Jenny then returns to the couch. There has been very little interaction between the two observed. 

Charlene has stated to workers on numerous occasions “I don’t know why I was so unlucky to get the dumb baby, oh well at least she is well behaved and never cries”.

Question- Identify and explain all the developmental concerns that exist for Jenny.
