Major Assignment 1 – Quality and Safety in Nursing (QSEN) Presentation (Total of 30% of final grade Part 1: 5%; Part 2: 20%, Part 3: 5%) The Quality and Safety in Nursing Presentation will allow students to explore concepts related to building and promoting a culture of safety in nursing. The presentation should focus on nurses as leaders at all levels in health care and their influence and impact on patient outcomes. In the presentation, students will discuss their understanding of the QSEN (Quality and Safety Education for Nurses) competencies followed by a deeper dive into one of the competencies related to a safety situation from current practice. The deeper dive should be a real-world safety situation you were directly involved in or observed, or a topic you are interested in. Identify and describe the situation, discuss the outcome and formulate a solution from a quality improvement perspective. Be sure to maintain confidentiality of the organization (no names). The conclusion will discuss the relationship of the real-world safety situation to one of the AACN The Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education. The presentation must be supported by at least four current peer-reviewed/scholarly resources (e.g., research/journal articles, text books, etc.). References must be within past 5 years. The final presentation must be cited in APA format.
