Major Assignment 2 – Nursing Leadership/Management Proposal and Paper The purpose of the Nursing Leadership/Management paper is to provide students with the opportunity to interview and analyze a chosen healthcare leader according to the criteria presented in this course. In this assignment, students will develop a health care delivery system profile. The student will select a nurse leader with faculty approval to interview, then examine and critique leadership and management style according to the evaluation criteria listed below and reflected in the course readings, discussions, lectures, outside references, observations, and professional experiences. Part 1: The student must submit a proposal for approval of the selected leader. The proposal will be submitted to the faculty in Canvas by the date indicated in the course schedule. The proposal should include the following information: Name and credentials of the nurse leader, official title, name, address and telephone number of the agency, and nurse leader’s email address. In addition, the student will provide rationale for selecting the nurse leader. The student will inform the nurse leader of confidentiality and that their name and agency will not be disclosed in the final paper. Failure to submit the proposal by the due date will result in a grade of zero for the assignment. The paper must be supported by at least four current (within past 5 years) peer-reviewed/scholarly resources (e.g., research/journal articles, text books, etc.). The final paper must be in APA format. Note: Papers submitted late will have 5 points deducted per day. Requests for extensions will be negotiated with the instructor on a case-by-case basis. Discuss the activities utilized at this organization that embrace principles of diversity, equity and inclusion. 20% Budgeting and Resource Allocation: Describe the financial management knowledge and skills demonstrated by the nurse leader in the selected organization Describe the budget system utilized within the selected organization Describe staffing and scheduling issues faced by nurse leader in the selected organization Describe how the nurse leader uses the strategic planning goals of the organization Describe how the nurse leader collaborates with other healthcare professionals to serve as a change agent. 20% Communication and Information Systems: Describe the communication tools and techniques utilized within the selected agency Describe the types of information systems that are in place in the selected agency. Explain how these systems affect the health care delivery within the agency Describe how the nurse leader communicates with other members of the healthcare team to facilitate effective team functioning. Describe factors that enhance and impede communications within the nursing unit/department 20% Quality Initiatives: Describe the legislative and health care mandates that affect the selected agency’s health care delivery system. Describe major quality improvement projects that impact this area of practice.
