Mr. and Mrs. Murdock are in the youngest old category in the “Elderly” age group. Even though they are the same age they seem to be in stages of life mentally. Mrs.Murdock believes that she has worked to her fullest ability and deserves to retire and enjoy the fruits of her labor. Mr.Murdock wants to continue to work and support his wife and his lifestyle. They are both starting to feel their age and are noticing a decline in their ability to complete tasks in the timely manner they are used to. The challenges that the Murdocks face if they continue to work for the next 5-10 years can be individual to both of them. They may run into health problems that can hinder their ability to continue working in their field. For example, Mr. Murdock’s job requires him to be able to be organized and a problem-solver, for chronic diseases like Alzheimer’s and Dementia can stop him from being able to work. while Mrs.Murdock whose job requires her to be able to move and be a problem-solver and organized can run into the same chronic diseases or have trouble with arthritis. They will both have to deal with waning energy levels and even declining sight and hearing abilities. They may be forced to retire because they cannot keep up with the workload. They could face stress or sadness because work is no longer fulling to them or they aren’t able to keep up with bills causing health issues to surface or they could get injured while working. In conclusion, there are many challenges the Murdock family can face if they stay in the workforce like potential sickness, stress/depression, or even injury. What are some advantages or disadvantages that may be presented to the Murdock family if they do decide to retire?
