Mrs. Schuett is a 70-year-old woman who has been hospitalized following an automobile accident. Her injuries are not life-threatening, but she will require hospitalization for rehabilitation for several weeks.
Mrs. Schuett came to Las Vegas from Germany two months ago, after the sudden death of her husband of 51 years. She lives with her daughter and teenaged grandson. In Germany, Mrs. Schuett enjoyed needlepoint and gardening, but since her husband’s death and relocation to Las Vegas, she has not wanted to do much of anything.
Mrs. Schuett does not speak nor understand much English. She is fluent in German only. Her daughter speaks German but works 12-hour shifts and can’t visit every day. Her grandson visits daily but doesn’t speak very much German. He does, however, understand most of what his grandmother says to him.
When not in physical therapy, Mrs. Schuett spends a lot of time reading her Bible or staring at the TV. She requires a lot of encouragement to complete her personal hygiene. Her appetite is poor, and her daughter is worried that she is beginning to lose weight.
