T he U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has releasedits most compre- hensive report to date on veteran suicide, revealing that veterans have a 21% greater risk of com- mittingsuicide than civilians, after adjustment for age and gender. Researchers analyzed over 55 mil- lion records from all 50 states for the period 1979 to 2014, but con- centrated on records from 2001 to 2014.
