Cancer is challenging to diagnose and treat. To treat oncological disorders, people frequently require the knowledge and abilities of a number of different medical and health specialists. I was able to understand more about oncological conditions and how they affect the people concerned. During this course, I learned about numerous treatment options, nurse interventions, and cancer prevention strategies. While caring for patients with oncological conditions, health care practitioners should be able to manage the patients’ symptoms, provide appropriate support to the patient and family, and conduct the necessary assessments to comprehend the disease and treatment plan. Tele-oncology methods in the provision of care in rural locations is one example of new information gained in this area (Nickel, 2020). This new information will have an impact on my nursing career by allowing nurses to have easier access to patients.

Fluids and electrolytes in the body are an important component of nursing care; I learned the risks of fluid and electrolyte imbalances, the indications and symptoms of these imbalances, and how to avoid fluid and electrolyte imbalances. Patients with fluid and electrolyte imbalances should have their input and output monitored and noted. Oral fluids should be given with caution and on a 24-hour schedule if fluids are restricted, and weighing the patient daily is important to watch for sudden weight gain in patients with fluid overload.

Every patient we see in the field will have an acid-base imbalance. Therefore, the understanding acid-base balance is essential for treating patients effectively. I learned about acidosis, which occurs when the blood has too much acid and too little base, resulting in a drop in blood PH, and alkalosis, which occurs when the blood contains too much base and too little acid, resulting in an increase in PH. Testing and monitoring for urine PH is important because the kidneys attempt to compensate for acidosis by excreting excess hydrogen in the form of weak acids and ammonia, so motoring and graphing serial ABGs is important for the patient experiencing acid-base imbalances to evaluate therapy needs and effectiveness.
