One thing I can think about that could possibly go wrong with having a universal charting system is the accessibility to unlimited patient information, all in one place. This aspect would make it easier for a maleficent person to access all of the patients information with no barriers. Privacy has always been a concern with any patient information, and electronic charts are not the exception whether they’re electronic or part of a universal database. I believe the sensitivity of the information being handled in the medical care facilities should be guarded by surveillance/authentication processes, like the ones we have now and I’m sure will continue to use for a while.
