Respond to this post , giving the advantages of Martha rogers theory. Martha Rogers was a nursing scientist, she was a loyal supporter for nursing as a simple science from which the skill of nursing practice would appear. She achieved her Bachelor of Science degree, and master’s degree in public health nursing, this was the center of her nursing profession. She achieved her Doctor of Science degree. Rogers recognized the human-environmental mutual process as the main focus. Rogers expressed her thoughts, and ideas on a new global view in nursing. Rogers emphasized that nurses should have a vision to look forward, not be stuck in the present. Nurses should have a vision for the future where theres continuous change. Rogers advised that traditional nursing practice, and research offered an aim, they are not appropriate for the newer global view. This insists that nurses use the knowledge base of Rogerian nursing science innovatively to develop new practice, and research that would increase the wellness of mankind. Rogers nursing science may be applied to all nursing practices (Smith & Parker, 2015). Rogers was a pioneer in her emphasizes on mankind, and their environment. Most important was education, and nursing practice. Rogers work is unique, known as the science of unitary human beings. Rogers mentioned that nursing will primarily be practiced in the community. Nursing is everywhere, in hospitals, in homeless shelters, in many types of agencies for people of all ages. Nursing should be practiced wherever there are people (Fawcett, 2003) The nursing profession has multiple educational paths, graduates with diplomas, associate degrees in nursing, bachelors degree in nursing, bachelor science in nursing, and an entry level masters degree which qualifies to write the national licensing examination. Associate degree in nursing accounts for fifty four percent graduates. The 2011 Institute of Medicine recommended that higher levels of education among nurses led to better patient outcomes in acute care settings. Since the Institute of Medicine future of nursing report, many other studies have confirmed that more registered nurses need to obtain at least a bachelor of science degree to meet the future health care needs. Employers have shown a strong interest in hiring bachelor educated nurses. Institute of Medicine targeted that eighty percent of registered nurses will have a bachelor degree by 2020. This goal will not be met, progress has been made toward this goal. Based on current patterns of registered nurse to bachelor of science in nursing education, approximately sixty-six percent of registered nurses will have a bachelor degree, and higher education by year 2025 (Spetz, 2018). A study found that new bachelor of science degree nurse graduates reported higher levels of preparedness in evidence-based nursing practice, and research skills. Patient care within the hospital is growing, and more complex. Nurses need critical thinking skills to care for more sicker patients. Nursing care outside the hospital is becoming more complex. Nurses are needed to coordinate patient care with other multidisciplinary team members to help manage patients with chronic illnesses. This is to prevent acute episodes, and progression of the diseases. A higher educated nursing workforce would be better trained to meet these demands (NCBI Bookshelf, 2011).
