Role play – Create role play between the client and the service provider for following 3 scenarios and answer the following questions.

 

Scenario 1

 

You will be given a care plan (Appendix 1 – Summary Care Plan A – Mrs. Eleanor White) for a client, Mrs. White.  After reading the care plan you are required to use this plan to help Mrs. White get ready for a shower and attend a facility activity with the facilities leisure and lifestyle team. While you are helping Mrs. White get out of bed, you notice she has a wound on her R) arm which looks inflamed and may get infected.  

 

Question 01 – How would you ensure and confirm what is appropriate in your job role when reviewing an individual support plan?

 

Question 02 -Provide an example of something that is outside of your skills, knowledge and job role and what you would do in that situation.

 

Question 03-When would it be appropriate for you to confirm details with or include carers or family in reviewing the individual care plan?

 

Question 04-How would you ensure that you meet duty of care and dignity of risk requirements while providing support?

 

Question 05-How would you ensure that maximum dignity and privacy is respected when providing support services?

 

Scenario 2

 

You will be given the care plan (Appendix 2 – Summary Care Plan B – Mrs. Dinah Habib) for a client, Mrs. Dinah Habib. 

Mrs. Habib has just come back to the facility following a five (5) day hospital admission due to a fall and resulting in a fractured right arm (shaft of humerus) In the short term, Mrs. Habib will require more assistance with her personal care as she can only use her left arm as well as monitoring her pain. As she will need her care plan adjusted, Mrs Habib has requested her daughter to be present as she is hard of hearing and her daughter speaks “better English” than her. For personal Care, Mrs Habib has requested female staff only. 

 

Discuss what changes are required on the care plan.

Scenario 3 

 

You will be given a care plan (Appendix 3 – Summary Care Plan C – Mr. John Jones) for a client, Mr. John Jones.  After reading the care plan you are required to use this plan to help Mr. Jones with his morning routine.  You are required to shower him in the morning and arrive at his room at 7.50am to get him ready.  When you enter his room, Mr. Jones states his pain in his knees is worse today, (he does have osteoarthritis) and is finding it more difficult to ambulate. He is requesting that his shower be attended in the afternoon when the Panadol Osteo has controlled his pain. 

After you have reported Mr. Jones’ request, you may offer him a sponge in bed.
