A. BENEDICT’S TEST
1. Use five clean and dry test tubes and label as follows:
Test tube 1 – place 10 drops of 1% glucose
Test tube 2- place 10 drops of 1% fructose
Test tube 3- place 10 drops of 1% sucrose
Test tube 4- place 10 drops of 1% lactose
Test tube 5- place 5 drops of starch hydrolysate sample
Test tube 6- place 5 drops of glycogen hydrolysate sample
2. Add 2 mL Benedict’s reagent to each test tube. Mix well. Boil the mixture in a water bath for 3 minutes. Remove from the water bath if formation of a brick red precipitate is observed. Note the length of time in the formation of the brick red precipitate.
