Following a further 4 days in hospital Mrs. Smith continues to deteriorate and develops pulmonary oedema with copious amounts of frothy sputum that requires regular suctioning. Mrs. Smith has peripheral cyanosis and increased fatigue with limited episodes of consciousness. Her resp rate is 36 and she remains on 2L of 02. The multidisciplinary team have held a case conference and have made the decision to implement a palliative care package for Mrs. Smith.
