According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ([CDC], 2019), antibiotic resistance is a significant public health issue.  They report at least 2.8 million people developing an antibiotic-resistance infection, with more than 35,000 of those cases resulting in death.  These numbers are alarming and should concern us all.  However, many pharmaceutical companies are shying away from new antibiotic development with many going out of business.

For this week’s discussion, you will be focusing on pharmaceutical companies, drug-resistant microorganisms and new antibiotic development. Prior to submitting your posts, you need to read the following article:
