Watch the Continuing Competence Program (CCP) video (6:56) and read the CCP Guide from the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta – CCP.
Select three major competency areas from Competency Profile for Licensed Practical Nurses (5th ed., 2020) that you wish to focus your CCP. For example – E: Nursing Practice.
For each competency area, choose at least three competencies that you would like to pursue to support your continuing competence. For example – E-4-3 Demonstrate knowledge and ability to perform wound care assessment and treatments.
Write  brief self-assessment as to why you chose each competency area.
Describe at least two specific resources (e.g., study guide, webinar, textbook, journal, etc.) or activities (e.g., joining a committee or working group, volunteering, observing a more experienced nurse in the unit) that you will use to meet each competency. Indicate the Standard of Practice from Standards of Practice for Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (2013) which relates to each resource or activity. Please see the example below.
Indicate a target month within 2022 that you aim to meet the competency.
Evaluate by briefly describing how your completion of these resources/activities will enhance your knowledge, skills, critical thinking, and psychosocial growth.

Self-assessment: During my Clinical 3, I noticed that skin tears occurred in among older adults after a near miss or actual fall. I would like to know more about managing this condition.

Read Wounds Canada – Best Practice Recommendations for the Prevention and Management of Skin Tears.
Join wound rounds with the wound care team or more experienced nurses to discuss assessment and wound protocol.

Standard of Practice: Standard 2 Knowledge-Based Practice

Evaluation: I will be able to write an appropriate wound protocol for a client with a skin tear.
