a. Form a tight seal around the mouthpiece with your lips.

  b. Sit up straight or stand.

 

c. The medical assistant will have you use the peak flow meter twice more and will record the highest number.

 

d. Greet the patient and wash your hands.

 

e. Hold the peak flow meter upright.

 

f. Blow out as quickly and as hard as you can to exhale all of the air out of your lungs.

 

g. Inhale as deeply as you possibly can.

 

h. Slide the indicator to the bottom of the scale (may be done by the medical assistant

 

i. The force of your exhalation will cause the indicator to rise in the meter.
