Client Profile Parkinson’s
Mr. Simon Lee is a 72, year old widower who has had Parkinson’s disease for 10 years. He lives alone in a senior apartment complex with his cat.
Mr. Lee uses a 4-wheeled walker to ambulate. His walking is quite slow and he shuffles his feet, finding it difficult to lift his legs. He often gets ‘stuck or freezes’ when walking and is unable to move forward without assistance.
He takes medications for his Parkinson’s in the morning and at bedtime which help with his hand tremors and body stiffness, but the medication takes about half an hour to begin to be effective.
Mr. Lee has dysphagia and tends to pocket food in his mouth and has difficulty eating due to his tremors.
He receives daily homecare support from 0700-1000 to assist him with medications, a shower, grooming and breakfast before he is picked up by a van to go to a Senior Day Program

He becomes very frustrated when trying to communicate to family and staff at the long-term care facility where he now lives. He now uses a wheelchair to ambulate due to right-sided weakness but struggles with coordination and requires a one-person assist transfer.
He requires assistance with showering, dressing, and grooming. As the Health Care Assistant assigned to Mr. Watts, you are directed to encourage independence and assist him in learning to do things for himself.
