Preprocedure diagnosis: left malignant pleural effusion secondary to left lung adenocarcinoma
Procedure: thorancentesis at beside. After infiltrating the skin with and anesthetic, an incision was made below the 6th rib and meticulously dissected to the pleural space. A serosanguineous effusion was encountered and a Yankauer suction tip used to drain the fluid. A portable chest x-ray showed a significant decrease in the effusion.
