A 45-year-old female client has been admitted for observation after coming to the emergency department reporting dizziness, nausea, and vomiting. She states, “I can’t seem to get rid of the flu. This is the third time I’ve had it recently.” She reports being at home earlier in the day and having a sensation of spinning come over her suddenly. When she fell to the floor, her partner brought her immediately to the emergency department. Now, several hours later, she reports feeling somewhat better but still has the spinning sensation and is nauseated. She says that she also has ringing in her ears. On assessment, vital signs include BP 140/90 mm Hg, pulse 100 beats/min, and respirations 20 breaths/min. Nystagmus is noted. When someone stands on the left side of the client, she does not respond to questions or dialogue.
