A problem that I can identify from the hospital where I am working right now is communication problems between nurses and medical doctors. According to Forbes et al. (2020), 30% of malpractices in the United States is due to poor communication between nurses and physicians. Even though hospitals and education programs always reinforce the importance of good interdisciplinary communication, this problem is still happening. For example, some doctors from my unit will look for nurses or call them to get updates or to let the nurse know what is going on, but other physicians do not communicate with nurses, triggering delay of care; moreover, patients have questions and start asking to the nurses about procedures and tests, and nurses do not know. Many medical doctors from the hospital where I work believe that we are going to have time to read their daily reports; however, we have 7 patients every day, and some days we do not have any time to read reports and we really do not know what is going on with patients.
