Introduction:Â As a nurse, there are patients that we come to enjoy caring for and there are also patients that are challenging to care for. We each carry a variety of biases that can impact our ability to care for someone. As a student nurse, it is important to begin recognizing patients that you may find more challenging to care for than others. For example, caring for patients who abuse alcohol or illicit substances may present the challenge of pushing through personal biases. For another individual, they may find it challenging to care for patients with dementia because the patients remind them of a loved one. In all situations, it is important to model the Christ-like love of patients to our colleagues.
Purpose:Â Identify a patient group that you may find challenging to care for. Examine why this type of patient may present a personal challenge for you to care for them. To model Christ-like love of patients to your interprofessional colleagues, determine realistic strategies to implement Christ-focused care for the challenging patient group(s) without compromising your Christian worldview within your nursing practice.
Instructions for Initial post:
Identify a minimum of 1 patient group you might find challenging to care for.
Explain why this patient group may present a challenge for you.
Describe how you will succeed in looking past your biases and model to your interprofessional colleagues a Christ-focused approach to patient care that reflects your Christian worldview. Describe three specific actions you can take.Â
Share a minimum of one Bible verse that you feel supports providing Christ-centered care for all patients
