Sophie is a 14 year old girl
Sophie is a 14 year old girl you are caring for following an appendicectomy. When you go to check on her surgical wound, she is quite nervous about moving from under the covers or allowing you to touch her or see the area around the wound site. As the RN had already assessed her pain levels and had administered her analgesia, you believe that her nervousness is not from fear or pain, but may be caused by something else. Knowing that you need to build trust with Sophie, to enable her to share her concerns; you reassure her and ask her ‘what’s the matter?’ Sophie gets teary and says she is ‘ugly’ and ‘fat’. She also says she has been eating less and restricting her dietary intake, but still cannot not lose weight and make her body look like the models in magazines. Sophie also says she gets very depressed at times because of this. Sophie says both her parents are heavy built and obesity runs in her family. Sophie says, in her culture they eat a lot of fatty foods, have many celebrations where food is the main focus and this is the environment she has grown up in. 1. Explain 2 common health issues that adolescents are prone to that Sophie might be suffering from? 2. Using the case study ( Sophie) give a brief explanation of the influence of genetics and environment on Sophie’s development
