Good Morning, I hope your day is
Good Morning, I hope your day is going well. I struggling to do these 3 case studies/ care plans and role play conversations for support worker and Gym owner as I haven’t done anything like this before. Can you please help me. I have put them below for you Client 1 – Akala Role Play 1a Case Study G: Akala Akala suffers from a degenerative respiratory disease. She requires a constant oxygen supply from a tank. Her support plan includes: This Support Plan Belongs To: Akala Goal 1: My Goal is… To join a gym and get fit Task: You are Akala’s support worker. She wants your help to complete the rest of her Support Plan in relation to joining a gym. Role play a conversation with Akala where you: Introduce yourself as Akala’s new support worker. As a part of this, discuss What parts of her current plan you can and can’t assist with. Who else can assist with the aspects you can’t provide support with. Whether she agrees with her support plan, or if there are things she would like to see changed. Whether there are family or carers that she would like to have involved in the support. plan and, if so, what their views are about the current support plan. Explain her rights as a client and the complaints process (give general information here that is reasonable and refer to fictitious client documents “Your Rights” and “Making a Complaint”). Check if she would like to have a discussion now completing the rest of the support plan (attached below, this will need to be submitted at the bottom of the page). Goal 1: My Goal is… To join a gym and get fit Steps to reach my goal Obstacles to achieving this What will be done, and by when? What will others do, by whom and by when? Find a gym that will accept me I’m bad at talking on the phone Research gyms on the internet then to find out if they’ll accept me Review my email to see if its OK Take a photo of me that I can attach Go and visit the gym and see what they can do for me I’m scared when they see my oxygen supply, they’ll reject me Talk to them on the phone first, build a connection. For those that say yes, ring them up to discuss further and make a time to come in Support worker to help me get confident talking to a gym with a mock phone call – today Find a friend to go with (no offence, but not my support worker!) Some friends are too busy, others don’t want the responsibility Role Play 1A A Partner plays Akala. Learner plays support worker. Akala is polite and showing signs of nerves. Support worker – Learner should introduce themselves and explain the purpose of the meeting, to discuss Akala’s support plan. Akala – It’s nice to meet you, thank you for your help with this. Support worker – Learner should check with Akala to see if there is anything she needs to have amended. Learner should also confirm with family and friends if appropriate. Akala: I am happy with the plan so far, I just require help to complete it. Are you able to complete it for me? I don’t think I can do it by myself. Support worker – Learner must work within scope of role and clarify what they can and can’t assist with. Akala: I would really prefer if you could just do it all for me. It would be much easier. My mum would also like to see the completed support plan. She’s worried about me going to the gym. Support worker: Learner should acknowledge this and confirm if there are any other family members/carers that may like to be involved, and confirm their views. Learner should why the mum is concerned and address those issues. Akala: My mum is concerned because I haven’t been to a gym before. She is worried that it will be unsafe and too much for me. Support worker: Learner should further acknowledge these concerns and work with Akala to identify these concerns and put together a strategy to involve her mum. Akala: Ok that sounds like something mum will be happy with and should be good. What is the next step? Support worker: Learner should now discuss client rights and provide general information about this process/complaints. They should acknowledge that Akala understands. Akala: Thank you for explaining that. I understand. Support worker: Learner should now acknowledge this and ask if Akala would like to finish the support plan. Akala: Yes, I would like to finish the support plan. Support worker will confirm that they will commence work on completing the support plan Role Play 1b Akala agrees to complete the rest of the support plan now. Assist her to do this. Note: your role is to build Akala’s skills and decision-making abilities by drawing her ideas out, not simply telling her what she should do. Role Play 1B Learner: Plays the part of the support worker. Partner: Plays the part of Akala. Support worker – Learner will acknowledge Akala and confirm that they are going to complete the support plan. Support worker should acknowledge their assistance must be within boundaries of providing a safe environment for Akala. Akala: I need to find a friend to go to the gym with. I think I will feel much better. I just don’t know anyone who will be able to come with me. Support worker: Learner should acknowledge this and prompt Akala for strategies that can be put in place. Akala: I’m not sure how I can find someone who will be free. What should I do? Support worker: Learner should put it back to Akala to think of options here so she is involved in the decision making. Akala: I suppose I could start with making a list of 3 friends I could approach. Support worker: Learner should acknowledge this idea and encourage how this can be actioned. Akala: I will set a goal of calling these friends within a week. Support worker: Learner should acknowledge this and encourage Akala to think of any other strategies that will assist this. Akala: I could make a secondary list of friends in case the first three I try aren’t available. Support worker: Learner should acknowledge this and support her decision making. Akala: Can you help me to practice calling my friends so I feel more confident knowing what to say? Support worker: Learner should acknowledge this, open the conversation to Akala to decide when. Akala: We can practice calling a friend today while you are here. Support worker: Learner would acknowledge this and plan this with Akala. Conclude discussion. Role Play 1c Working from the final support plan that has been completed, assist Akala by conducting a mock phone call with her where you pretend to be the gym owner and she practices calling the gym (you) to build her confidence. Role Play 1C Learner: plays the part of the gym owner. Partner: plays the part of Akala. Akala is nervous, timid and scared of joining the gym. Gym owner: Learner should answer the phone in a professional manner Akala: Hi, my name is Akala and I was wondering if I could speak to someone about joining the gym? Gym owner: Will acknowledge the and assist Akala. Learner should identify they are the owner and ask what they can help with. Akala: I have a few concerns, and I’m actually quite scared to join up. Gym owner: Learner should show signs of support and understanding Akala: That’s great. I am not sure I will fit into the gym environment. I am afraid it will just be too much for me. Gym owner: Learner should start to investigate reasons behind the concerns Akala: I’ve never been a member of a gym before. I have a degenerative respiratory disease and have never felt capable of going to a gym. I have to carry an oxygen tank with me, and when people see that they reject me. Gym owner: Learner would show understanding of this, and should start to establish ways in which they can support Akala. This could include suggesting a time for Akala to come into the gym Akala: Thank you, that sounds great. I would love to come in to the gym and see you then. Gym owner: Learner should start to talk about options for equipment, such as setting up an area specifically for Akala to train in. Learner should ask Akala if there is equipment that she is interested in trying. Akala: I would really like to try the cardio equipment, but I’m not sure any would be suitable with my oxygen tank. Gym owner: Learner should identify ways of ensuring equipment is suitable, and giving Akala the opportunity to decide if it is suitable for her to use. This could include the option of the owner demonstrating equipment and allowing Akala to decide if it’s suitable for her. Akala: That sounds wonderful. Thank you, I really appreciate your help and understanding. I feel like I will be able to feel safe in your gym. Gym owner: The learner could express that they are looking forward to meeting and conclude discussion. Akala: Thank you, I will see you then. Gym owner: Learner would conclude the discussion.
