ROLE PLAY

 

Create role play between the support worker and the client  for both scenarios and answer the questions below mentioned.

 

Scenario 2  – Hilda

Hilda is a seventy-one-year-old woman who has been in a car accident. The accident occurred nine weeks ago and she suffered fractures to both of her wrists and multiple ribs. She has been recovering at home and receiving support with almost all aspects of her daily life.

One day, during a routine visit, Hilda expresses that she would like to increase her daily responsibilities as her wrist fractures are healing well. She still experiences pain, but her symptoms are improving.

She has stated that she wishes to take care of her own personal hygiene and wants to be able to dress herself. She would also like to be able to go for short walks to meet her friend’s for coffee. Hilda’s daughter has been providing assistance during her recovery, but can only provide support in the evenings and at weekends due to her work commitments.

When clients state that they wish to increase their personal responsibilities, communication protocols state that health and community workers who the request has been made to must:

Make a judgement on the current physical wellbeing of the client and note it down
Make contact with their supervisor using the appropriate method, such as a phone call or email
Provide information about the client to the supervisor
State the changes to the care plan that have been proposed
Provide their professional opinion
Treat the supervisor with respect
Follow confidentiality protocols

Scenario 3 – Discharge - Sam

Sam is a seventy-three-year-old man who has been in hospital for the past three weeks following a fall at home. He has suffered a fractured femur and has trouble communicating as English is his second language. He is ready to be discharged and is having a care plan arranged for him.

Sam lives alone and does not have any family that could support him. Although he no longer requires constant medical assistance at the hospital, he will require support at home from other services. Sam volunteers at a local school two days a week, where he helps young children between the ages of five and eight learn how to read. He feels that they have a good rapport as his English isn’t great, but they help him and he helps them.

Sam wants to return to work as soon as possible as this is something he loves to do.

Needs may include:

Help with altering the home
Carers coming into the house
Help making meals
Physiotherapy/Occupational therapy
Returning to work.

An Individual care plan is required with specific goals and a timeline is key to his recovery. (Template is attached)
