Task:
Use the qualitative data provided to you (in the week 2 tutorial folder) from the survey (that was conducted during Week 1) and the skills and knowledge relating to qualitative research and data analysis (covered in the Topic 2 Study Guide and week 2 tutorial) to conduct a thematic analysis to address the following research question.
Research Question:
What strategies do students of STAT2001-2021-2 use to achieve work-life balance?
Construct a brief written report to present the findings from the thematic analysis. The report should be structured using the subheadings outlined below: Title, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, References. While you are encouraged to collaborate on the thematic analysis during tutorials, the written report must be an individual assessment item. Please use the template provided and sign the academic integrity declaration on the front cover. Assignments that do not have a declaration will not be assessed.
Reporting Structure for this assignment
Title
Provide a brief title that reflects the contents of the report.
Introduction
Provide a brief introduction to the main terms and a brief justification as to why this is a worthy topic for investigation. (Academic Integrity practice guide – ensure that all definitions and claims are substantiated by citations from the relevant literature). Clearly state main aim/question of investigation.
Methods
Provide a brief description of the study population (i.e. the inclusions/exclusions criteria for participation in the survey) and the methods used in the analysis (i.e. describe your process of thematic analysis, see the Week 2 Study Guide for guidance). The rule of thumb should be that there should be enough information that someone could replicate what you have done (and arrive at a similar conclusion).
Results
Report on the findings from the thematic analysis. Provide 3-5 key themes that accurately reflects the structures in the data. Provides the names, descriptions and at least one illustrative quote for each theme. Use the template to help format the results section using the key themes as subheadings. Note that the word count does not include quotes from participants.
Discussion
Provide a high-level summary of the key themes in a way that answers the research question. Speculate on why using a qualitative approach is appropriate for this research question. Speculate on any potential limitations of the study design or methods. Provide a statement of conclusion. All references cited in-text should be listed in your reference list in APA 7th formatting style. In-text and reference lists are not included in the word count.
