Evidence of an association between a risk factor and a disease is not necessarily evidence of causation. Decisions about causation are important when planning interventions to alleviate the burden of disease in a population. Failure to target true causal mechanisms will limit the effectiveness of health care services.
Consider an example of research that reports an association between exposure to home dampness/mold and childhood allergic rhinitis. A reference for the journal article is provided below. Retrieve the full text of the article through the XU library.

Use the guidelines for judging whether an observed association is causal to assess evidence of causation in this study.
These are the guidelines:
Case Studies in Causal Inference
As you review the research study, use this worksheet to make notes on whether there is evidence of causation between the risk factor and the disease. Refer to chapter 14 in your text for further information about the guidelines for judging whether an observed association is causal.
Temporal relationship
Strength of the association
Dose-response relationship
Replication of the findings
Biologic plausibility
Consideration of alternate explanations
Cessation of exposure
Consistency with other knowledge
Specificity of the association

Summarize your assessment of causation in an initial post to the discussion board (three hundred and fifty words).
